FBM and FA Now Are Affiliated Member of Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)

Faculty of Business Management and Faculty of Accountancy are pursuing accreditation with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a premier US-based accrediting agency for business and accountancy school. This accreditation will place UiTM’s business and accountancy programs at par with some of the finest universities in the world. The accreditation process involves a comprehensive assessment of the Faculty’s teaching and research activity, academics and strategies for the advancement of the business and accountancy programs.

The idea of getting AACSB accreditation was initiated by the former Vice Chancellor, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Prof Dr Ibrahim Abu Shah. God willing, with the full support from Tan Sri VC and the commitment of two faculties, the first step of accreditation, that is being admitted as a member of AACSB, is completed.  UiTM now is officially an affiliated member of AACSB International. The two faculties are now gearing up for the next several steps towards full accreditation of AACSB.

The Faculty of Business Management of Universiti Teknologi MARA, is honored to receive accreditations by The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Malaysia and The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). This recognition indicates that a certificate, diploma or degree program offered by the faculty has attained the quality standards and criteria set by both institutions. The accreditations are in the delivery of the following programs:

Accreditation by

Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) Transport

Introductory Certificate in Marketing

Professional Certificate in Marketing

Professional Diploma in Marketing

Chartered Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing

CILT Certificate

CIM Certificate

On the 20th February 2013, the Faculty of Business Management (FBM) had the opportunity to have two discussion sessions with representatives from Allianz Life Insurance Malaysia Berhad and Ardent Education Consultants Sdn Bhd, respectively. The discussions were timely as it is the aspiration of UiTM’s Vice Chancellor that the university has a firmer and more effective linkage with the industry. We believe that the discussions would lead to a win-win situation for both FBM and respective companies in the following collaborative aspects:

  1. the companies would provide the opportunity for final semester FBM students to undertake practical or industrial training attachments with these companies
  2. the companies would provide employment opportunity for fresh graduates from the faculty
  3. the companies could be an avenue for lecturers from FBM to do their industrial attachment stints
  4. the companies could provide the opportunity for FBM lecturers to do research in the areas of finance, insurance and economics with research findings that would benefit the university and the respective companies

The discussions ended on a positive note and that further meetings would be held to ensure the desired objectives are met.

The next day, FBM had another fruitful meeting with representatives from Innovation Associates Consulting Sdn Bhd and CareerXcell Sdn Bhd of the iA group. The companies are keen to engage in a meaningful relationship with the faculty especially in providing internship and career opportunities for FBM students and fresh graduates as well as research collaborations with academicians from the faculty. A total of 6 initiatives have been identified and would be explored further to bring a significant outcome to both parties.

The Faculty of Business Management is embarking on a more aggressive internationalization agenda so that the faculty and UiTM can benefit from the international linkages generated with foreign universities and industries. Recently, the management of the faculty had a discussion with Mr Andrew Paltridge, who is the Director, International, from the Queensland University of Technology, Australia. The Queensland University of Technology is a highly ranked business research university in Australia. It is triple accredited by AACSB, Equis and Association of MBAs. In addition, it is a research-intensive university, focusing on areas such as, among many others, economics, finance, and entrepreneurship. It is hoped that with this meeting, the faculty will be able to collaborate with QUT and learn what it takes to become a leading research faculty, thus paving the way for UiTM to be a research -intensive institution. The faculty also hopes to develop close ties with QUT Business School in student exchange, joint PhD supervision, cohort PhD, and joint research programs.

Mr Ko was accompanied by Mr Por Yew Guan who is the Regional Representative (Malaysia & Singapore) from the same institution. The Dean of FBM, Professor Dr Faridah Hj Hassan, led the discussion together with the management team from FBM, IBE and also AAGBS. The discussion ended on a high note where both parties agreed on collaborations such as student exchange, short courses, staff exchange and joint research.
