In celebration of the International Volunteer Day in December 2014, UiTM hosted Volunteer Open Day 2014 (VOD2014) at Dewan Agong Tuanku Canselor from 8 till 9 November 2014. The organizing team consists of final year students of Bachelor of Event Management from the Faculty of Business & Management. The team. Kaiser Event, organized the event not only as an academic fulfillment but also as a contribution to the volunteering community in Malaysia by providing a call to action to the general public to get involved in volunteering.

The first of its kind in Malaysia, VOD2014 provides an opportunity for the public to get out and connect with Malaysia’s local volunteer involving organizations, find out what positions they have available and check out their volunteering programs. At the same time, VOD2014 also provides volunteer organizations and individual volunteers with the opportunity to raise the public awareness of their contributions to economic and social development at local, national and international levels.

Officiated by Dato’ Sri Noh Omar, Chairman of Selangor UMNO Liaison Committee, VOD2014 offered various activities in addition to the main components which are the NGOs volunteer recruitment and iconic volunteer forums. Other activities and side events include bazaar, blood donation, demonstrations, activity with orphans, and zoolunteer.

VOD2014 were joined by 23 NGOs including Aman Palestin Malaysia, IM4U, SOLS 24/7, MYCAT, The Nasi Lemak Project, Majlis Kanser Nasional (MAKNA), Malaysian Nature Society, (Kelab Pencinta Alam), Institute Onn Jaafar,m Kindness Dot My, Aqsa Sharif, Pertubuhan Himpunan Lepasan Institusi Pendidikan Malaysia (HALUAN), Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa, Malaysian Relief, Pusat Sumber Transplan Nasional HKL, Pink Ribbon Wellness Foundation, MERCY, Malaysia Drug Free Youth Association, Kor Sukarelawan Polis Siswa Siswi UiTM Shah Alam, Pertubuhan Penyelamat Kucing Terbiar Katzen, Malaysian Amateur Radio Emergency Services Society (MARES).

Another key component of the event is a series of forum called Share and Gain. Among the speakers were iconic individuals and social entrepreneurs such as Zhariff Affandi of Agenda Lokalism, Michael Teoh from Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa, Charles Mohan from Institut Onn Jaafar, and Dr Tengku Shahrom from Aqsa Shariff.

At the end of the event all the NGOs managed to recruit and signed 2331 volunteers for their causes and missions.
